How to Garden with Flowers
Before you plant flowers, familiarize yourself with the whats, hows and whys to get the best result. l Plan out your garden before you plant it, deciding type, color, height and location. l Scout your local nursery for climate-suitable flowers and how to plant and take care of them. l After planting, most flowers will only need one application of fertilizer per growing season. l Be sure your garden gets at least one inch of water per week. l Weed early and often. l Mulch your flowers to control weeds and reduce moisture evaporation. l Deadhead your plants: pinch off dead and dying blooms at the mother plant to force more blooms. l Before winter, pull up stems and roots of annual plants, stems only of perennials, and rake the area. Roses are some of my favorites! What are your favorite flowers?
